    Toys – “Finding Your Inner Child” will be the subject of the Spring/Summer show at the Athens Cultural Center. Using toys, puppets and contemporary art inspired by toys this exhibit examines how these toys, the ubiquitous dolls, cars, trains , etc.,  reflective of  the era in which they were produced, resonate with young and old, artist and non-artist alike.  Play develops imagination, creativity and invention, and toys and puppets are tools the we use both as children and adults to inform artistic expression.

    Curated by Diane Michener and Lucy Michener. The show runs May 25 through August 4. Opening reception May 25, 6 to 8 P.M. Gallery hours Fridays, 4 to 7 P.M., Saturdays 2 to 7 P.M. and Sundays 1 to 4 P.M. 24 Second St, Athens

    “HOMELY” 

    Where and What Is Home? The Athens Cultural Center is pleased to announce our fall exhibit “HOMELY.”  The exhibit will run from September 14th through November 24th.

    Gallery Hours:
    Friday~ 4:00pm-7:00pm
    Saturday~ 2:00pm-7:00pm
    Sunday~1:00pm-4:00pm

    Opening Reception: Saturday, September 14th at 6:00pm until 8:00pm

    Curated by Tim Watkins. The exhibition “Homely,” will explore the idea of ‘Homely.’  It can be interpreted in a variety of ways, from the literal to the abstract. In this transient society, where and what is home? The show draws on the power of memory of home, the longing for home, the experience of home both real and imagined, the politics of home and how we are all effected physically or psychologically. 

    The show will include a variety of media, including video, performance and poetry. Statements from the participating artists about the genesis of their work and thoughts on “home” will be included in the exhibition. We will be inviting some of the exhibiting artists to do workshops during the timeframe of the show and plan to schedule other public activities such as readings and music performances during the exhibition schedule.

    The exhibit will open with a reception at 6:00pm Saturday, September 14th, 2019 and the exhibit will run until Sunday, November 24th2019.  Athens Cultural Center, 24 Second St. Athens, New York 12015.     10:00am Victorian Stroll Vendor Committee Meeting

    The vendor committee sends applications to those who were vendors last year and anyone else who we think may be a good vendor.  (They usually divide it by the alphabet.)  Later the vendor committee measures and marks the location for each vendor and lets the vendors know what building they are in.
