The class uses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, soft shoe, and 4th grade Phys Ed. class. All techniques are consistent with the instructor’s age. Attire is required. Loose fitting clothes, ballet or regular slippers, are recommended.

    Toys – “Finding Your Inner Child” will be the subject of the Spring/Summer show at the Athens Cultural Center. Using toys, puppets and contemporary art inspired by toys this exhibit examines how these toys, the ubiquitous dolls, cars, trains , etc.,  reflective of  the era in which they were produced, resonate with young and old, artist and non-artist alike.  Play develops imagination, creativity and invention, and toys and puppets are tools the we use both as children and adults to inform artistic expression.

    Curated by Diane Michener and Lucy Michener. The show runs May 25 through August 4. Opening reception May 25, 6 to 8 P.M. Gallery hours Fridays, 4 to 7 P.M., Saturdays 2 to 7 P.M. and Sundays 1 to 4 P.M. 24 Second St, Athens

    Age and Confident Men
    Saturdays, 10:30am -noon

    A class dedicated to the principal that everyone has inner grace. The goal of the class is to improve balance and flexibility and transform your body awareness. The class uses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, soft shoe, and 4th grade Phys Ed. class. All techniques are consistent with the instructor’s age. Attire is required. Loose fitting clothes, ballet or regular slippers, are recommended.

    Instructor Bobby LuPone is a Julliard trained dancer and actor. He lives in Greene County with his wife Virginia and son Orlando.

    Tina is what  you might call a universally passionate fiber artist, and her love for fiber arts of all sorts run deep and into the realm of obsessive.  Tina has been knitting for 15 years, crocheting for 30+, and all manner of other fiber arts for years in between that span. Tina’s motto is that yarn and tools make for a happy brand of crazy that everyone should aspire to, and she would  love to share that “madness” with you.  “I believe everyone can create awesomeness, with enough practice and perseverance.” (Tina)

    A class dedicated to the principal that everyone has inner grace. The goal of the class is to improve balance and flexibility and transform your body awareness. The class uses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, soft shoe, and 4th grade Phys Ed. class. All techniques are consistent with the instructor’s age. Attire is required. Loose fitting clothes, ballet or regular slippers, are recommended.

    Instructor Bobby LuPone is a Julliard trained dancer and actor. He lives in Greene County with his wife Virginia and son Orlando.

    Instructor Bobby LuPone is a Julliard trained dancer and actor. He lives in Greene County with his wife Virginia and son Orlando.

    This summer the Athens Cultural Center had 8 different Instructors/artists provide amazing quality arts education experiences for ages 6-Seniors.  Classes were offered in everything from one night Scarf Printing to longer Landscape Classes, rock painting, jewelry and beading, and a variety of others. 
    Each teacher brought their own experience and expertise to their classes.  The exhibit of their work shows not only what they have already offered but a taste of other media and talents that they have and may give you an idea of what future classes could have in store.  Please joinus at the reception to see what we have to offer and to see the talents of our instructors!
