    Tina is what  you might call a universally passionate fiber artist, and her love for fiber arts of all sorts run deep and into the realm of obsessive.  Tina has been knitting for 15 years, crocheting for 30+, and all manner of other fiber arts for years in between that span. Tina’s motto is that yarn and tools make for a happy brand of crazy that everyone should aspire to, and she would  love to share that “madness” with you.  “I believe everyone can create awesomeness, with enough practice and perseverance.” (Tina)

    The Athens Cultural Center is proud to announce our 16th Annual Members Exhibition opening Saturday, April 13th 6:00-8:00pm.  This exhibit runs from April 13th until May 12th.  Gallery Hours are 1-4pm.   Our yearly exhibition has grown and flourished, showcasing the exciting work of emerging and established Hudson Valley artists in our beautiful turn of the century former mercantile space. The work of over 50 artists, ranging from watercolors, oils, pastels, pencil and ink on paper, photographs, ceramics, image transfer, and more, highlights the diversity of their creativity.

    During our opening reception on April 13th from 6-8 PM, four awards will be presented: The Directors Award, a cash prize of $100; The Curators Choice Award, a Solo Exhibition in the Glass Gallery during the 2019 Members Show; Best Landscape in Show and Best in Show Awards, each receiving a one year Individual ACC Membership.

    In the Glass Gallery, the 2018 Curator’s Choice Award winner, Cecelia Sinclair, of Hudson,
    a self-taught artist and Registered Nurse, spends her free time painting the landscapes of the Hudson Valley. Primarily in oils, her signature nocturne scenes are created with mysterious atmospheres and illuminating light effects.  Notably, her fourteen-piece body of works entitled

    “Hudson After Dark” captures the subtle essence of evening light in the City.  This brilliant and beautiful exhibit is a true representation of her passion for capturing the dreamy pensive mood of evening cityscapes.  She has held one woman shows in various galleries exhibiting this project.

    Ballet and Other Smooth Moves for Women of a Certain
    Age and Confident Men
    Saturdays, 10:30am -noon

    A class dedicated to the principal that everyone has inner grace. The goal of the class is to improve balance and flexibility and transform your body awareness. The class uses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, soft shoe, and 4th grade Phys Ed. class. All techniques are consistent with the instructor’s age. Attire is required. Loose fitting clothes, ballet or regular slippers, are recommended.

    Instructor Bobby LuPone is a Julliard trained dancer and actor. He lives in Greene County with his wife Virginia and son Orlando.

    Toys – “Finding Your Inner Child” will be the subject of the Spring/Summer show at the Athens Cultural Center. Using toys, puppets and contemporary art inspired by toys this exhibit examines how these toys, the ubiquitous dolls, cars, trains , etc., reflective of the era in which they were produced, resonate with young and old, artist and non-artist alike. Play develops imagination, creativity and invention, and toys and puppets are tools the we use both as children and adults to inform artistic expression.

    Gallery Hours: Fridays, 4 :00to 7:00 P.M.  Saturdays 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 P.M.

    Opening Reception: May 25, 6 to 8 P.M.
